Congratulations to Brayden Payne (10th grade) for his accomplishment in auditioning and making into the Oregon Music Education Association’s All-State Symphonic Band. Brayden plays the clarinet and achieved first chair status with his three part audition, which took place last October. He will be working with conductor Marcellus Brown, who is an internationally renowned and highly respected conductor and clinician, while performing with a large high school ensemble composed of some of the best musicians in the state of Oregon. He will be traveling down to the University of Oregon next month to take part in the 4-day event, representing himself and the Jewell School District proudly! Congratulations, Brayden!!!

To our Jewell families: As some of you may have seen in the media, a former Jewell teacher, David M. Brandon, was arrested in November and indicted on multiple sex abuse charges. Brandon taught woodshop at our high school from September 2014 until June 2019. We are dedicated to ensuring the well-being of our students and do not tolerate any behaviors that put them at risk. Our staff is trained annually on recognizing grooming behaviors and preventing abuse. I am currently consulting with Detective Jodi Libertad in regards to this matter. Due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, this is all that I am at liberty to say at this time. We encourage anyone with pertinent information to contact Detective Jodi Libertad at 503-325-8635. If you have any questions or concerns about our school procedures, please contact me at stevep@jewellk12.org. Sincerely, Stephen W. Phillips, PhD. Jewell School Superintendent
